Royal Enfield Bullets
Riding a Royal Enfield Bullet takes motorcycle riding to another level again, as this is history under the seat. A 1950’s designed single piston bike that offers the feel of a long gone era. Nothing compares to the sweet pop of the exhaust, and the gentle riding manners of the upright position that is comfortable all day. This is not about high speed or thrill seeking riding, although there are moments we can wind up the engines on the endless curves… this is riding for the pleasure of movement through an incredible landscape that endlessly inspires… riding with grace for the sake of pure enjoyment.
A Royal Enfield Bullet 500cc (350cc available on request), back up jeep to carry all luggage, spares, supplies, experienced Australian mountain guide, permits to the restricted areas, high end accommodation, all meals. 1 night in a 5 Star hotel in Delhi at each end of the ride, and your domestic flight transfers between Delhi and Leh each way. (2 nights in Delhi and 2 domestic flights)
Snacks, laundry and drinks. Your own motorcycle riding equipment including gloves, jacket, boots, helmet, etc.
Day 1 – Delhi: On arrival you will be met at Delhi airport (if you give us advance notice of your arrival details) and checked into a 5 Star Hotel near the airport. Please consider taking Diamox in advance of your arrival in Leh.
Day 2 – Leh (3400m): On arrival you will be met at Leh airport (if you are flying up from Delhi) and checked into a comfortable guesthouse. You will meet the group and be able to do some local sightseeing, and get settled into being in the mountain atmosphere. Pick up the bikes and get familiarized with them with some short rides about the Leh region. We’ll take it easy on the first day so you can acclimatise. If possible, we suggest that you arrive in Leh 1 or 2 days prior to the group starting in order to adjust to the altitude, otherwise please consider taking Diamox in advance of arrival.
Day 3 to 5 – Leh region: We’ll take these days to continue acclimatising as there are many stunning rides to do in the region. We’ll head out after breakfast and explore, most likely taking in some ancient monasteries along the way, such as Tiksey Gompa and/or Hemis Monastery, doing a round trip back on the far bank of the Indus river, returning to Leh in the late afternoon.
Day 6 to 7 – Leh to Hunder via Khardung La Pass (5540mtrs): We take a day to ride over the highest motorable pass in the world – Khardung La into Nubra Valley where we stay 2 nights camping at a luxury organic eco-resort. We’ll take a ride to Panamik (hot springs), visit some monasteries and take in the generally secluded magic of this remote Himalayan Valley.
Day 8 – Nubra valley to Sakti via Wari-La (5000m): Return to the Indus River Valley over Wari-la and spend a night in a beautiful homestay guesthouse in Sakti village near the famous Chem-re Monastery.
Day 9 – Sakti to Pangong Lake via Chang-La (5300m): A gorgeous ride to a huge lake that traverses the Indo-Tibetan border. We’ll stay in comfortable rooms overlooking the lake, soak up the scenic vibes, get some amazing photo’s at sunrise and ride along the foreshore to the place where the hit Indian film “3 Idiots” was shot (worthy research prior to coming, as its quite a good movie). [/acc_item]
Day 10 – Pangong back to Leh (3400m): After enjoying the morning at the lake, we’ll turn around and ride back, stopping to visit the Nomads who live at Chang-La pass with their 180 Yak. They make very good cheese which we can buy on the way back to Leh.
Day 11 – Leh to Lamayuru and return: On the last day we’ll head down the valley to the scenic moonscape surrounding Lamayuru. Its a sweet ride on smooth amazing roads and you’ll be smiling the whole way! We’ll end the tour with a feast at a fine restaurant in Leh and recap our adventures.
Day 12 to 13 – Leh: Optional rest, relaxation and shopping days. There is lots to see and do in and around Leh. We’ll point you in the right directions from our nice hotel so you can wander about and find yourself.
Day 14 – Leh to Delhi: Fly out in the morning and check into a 5 Star Hotel near the airport, for your departures. If you choose to stay on longer in Delhi or Leh, that is fine, just let us know your travel plans. This is a high altitude riding situation, so we recommend that you arrive at least 2 days early for full acclimatisation if possible. We take altitude acclimatisation seriously, and recommend that you read our information pages on Altitude. You may wish to consider starting a course of Diamox prior to arrival if you are not able to arrive in Leh some days prior to the ride departure date. See your doctor for medical advice about this.
